PAUSE ON CHINA  TARIFFS *

As of August 12, 2025, the United States and China have agreed to extend their current tariff truce by 90 days, pushing the next deadline to November 10.

This extension keeps U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods at roughly 30%—including a 20% fentanyl-related levy and a 10% reciprocal rate—while China maintains about 10% retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products. The pause avoids a sharp escalation to rates as high as 145% for U.S. imports and 125% for Chinese imports, which could have severely disrupted global supply chains.

The move is widely seen as a step toward easing trade tensions and paving the way for further negotiations, with the possibility of a Trump–Xi summit later this year.
